Maximum Amp Power Rating

The KHE Amp Cab Switchers are designed to switch a maximum of 150W RMS speaker signals. It is recommended to only use amps with up to 150W RMS output power or below.

However, it is possible to safely connect and use amps with up to 250W if you follow some basic rules:

  • Do not crank the volume of the amp. Do not exceed 150W output power.

  • Level-match the amp to a 100W head and make sure it stays within reasonable output levels below 150W.

  • Do not use amps with more than 250W at all (usually bass- and pa amps).

  • Ignoring these rules may damages the equipment. Use it at your own risk.

The KHE is compatible with all type of mono guitar amplifiers and guitar gear: Amp heads & combos, attenuators and load boxes, tube and valve amps, transistor- and solid-state amps, and even bridged class-d amplifiers (all in mono).

Bass Amps

The KHE is not compatible with bass amps. Most modern bass amps have 600W or more output power, which is way too much and not safe to use with the KHE. Thus, it is not recommended to use the KHE as a bass amp switcher

Load Power Rating

The loads, such as speaker cabs or load boxes, can have more than 150W power rating. This is no problem since it’s a passive device (the amplifier generates the power). Make sure all loads in the system match or exceed the output power rating of the amplifiers. Be careful when combining single combo speakers with powerful amp heads.

The 150W switching rating of the KHE does not mean that its protection load resistors can handle 150W. These load resistors have a lower power rating and serve exclusively for protection when the amp are deactivated on the KHE with a muted input. Do not use the KHE as a load box by itself and keep the amp guitar input connected to the KHE all the time!

Transistor Amps with Load Boxes or Attenuators

Many load boxes or attenuators are designed to only work with tube amplifiers. Many do not work with solid-state or transistor amps. Check the manual of the devices to ensure compatibility and safe operation and avoid damage to the equipment (the KHE works fine with all amps).

As a good example, the Two Notes Torpedo products can safely be used with transistor amps.
