Dual-Cab Mode

The KHE’s Dual-Cab Mode allows the activation of two speaker cabinet outputs simultaneously. The speaker cabs (or load boxes) are connected in parallel to the amplifier speaker output (mono parallel operation). Any two speaker cabs or load boxes can be active together. It is possible to run a cab and load box simultaneously. It is not possible to activate three or more cabinets at the same time.

Activating Dual-Cab Mode

By default, the Dual-Cab Mode is deactivated. Only one cab output can be activated. It is activated in the KHE’s System Menu:

  1. Enter the System Menu by pressing the KHE CTRL button for 3 seconds, then release it. The CTRL light starts to blink 1x, indicating “Page 1 - System Functions” is active. “Page 2 - MIDI Menu” would have 2x blinks of the CTRL light. To flip the menu page, short-press the CTRL button. The Dual-Cab Mode control is on “Page 1 - System Functions”.

  2. Press Switch AMP 2 to activate the Dual-Cab Mode in the System Menu. To deactivate it, simply press switch AMP 2 again.

  3. Exit and save the System Menu by pressing the CTRL button again for 3 seconds, then releasing it. The CTRL turns red (or green if linked) and the switcher is back in normal switching operation. All settings are saved and will be automatically loaded on the next power-up.

  4. Activate any two speaker cabs and an amp on the KHE. Slowly increase the volume of the amp and verify everything works as intended.

Impedance & Dual-Cab Mode

Dual-Cab Mode connects the two loads in parallel to the amplifier speaker output. This reduces the total load impedance seen by the amp:

  • Two 16 Ohm load = 8 Ohm total load

  • Two 8 Ohm load = 4 Ohm total load

  • One 8 Ohm load + one 16 Ohm load = 5,3 Ohm total load

The KHE cannot adjust or compensate for this impedance change. When using Dual-Cab Mode, it is usually recommended to match the impedance of the amps with the total load impedance. For example, if two 16 ohm cabs are being used, set the impedance of the amps to 8 ohm. Be careful with 4 ohm speaker cabinets or load boxes. With two active load devices, the total impedance would drop below 4 ohm which may overloads certain amps.
